Summary The quantitative separations of Fe2+ from Ni2+ and Co2+ and of Hg2+ from Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Ag+ and Bi3+ have been studied in detail using varying concentrations of NaCl solution in acetone. In order to find the optimum conditions for the separation of these ions, a systematic study was made of various important factors, such as sample concentration, eluent concentration, pH and ionic strength.
